Casting, Forging සහ Machining නිෂ්පාදන ක්‍රම අතර වෙනස කුමක්ද?

Casting (වාත්තු කිරීම) — Molten metal mould/die හි flow කර solidify:

  • Sand casting — රළු surface, low cost, complex shapes
  • Die casting — smooth finish, high volume, dimensional accuracy

Forging (හැඩගැසීම) — Solid metal heating/pressing:

  • Hot forging — high temp, easier to shape
  • Cold forging — room temp, better surface finish, work hardening

Machining (යන්ත්‍ර ගැනීම) — Material remove කර shape:

  • Turning (lathe) — cylindrical parts; Milling — flat/contoured surfaces
  • Drilling — holes; Grinding — precise finish (±0.01mm)

Heat Treatment — Annealing, Hardening සහ Tempering අතර වෙනස කුමක්ද?

Annealing — Heat → Slow cool (furnace):

  • Softens metal, removes internal stress, improves machinability

Hardening — Heat above Ac3 → Rapid quench (water/oil):

  • Increases hardness & strength → becomes brittle

Tempering — Reheat hardened metal below critical temp → cool:

  • Reduces brittleness, improves toughness — retains hardness

Sequence: Hardening → Tempering  |  Case Hardening: surface only (gears, shafts)
