BJT (Bipolar Junction Transistor) — current-controlled device:

IC = β × IB  |  IE = IB + IC  |  β = 20–500

Operating Regions:

  • Cut-off — both junctions reverse biased (OFF switch)
  • Active — forward/reverse biased (amplifier)
  • Saturation — both junctions forward biased (ON switch)

Configurations:

  • Common Emitter (CE) — highest voltage gain, most used
  • Common Base (CB) — current gain < 1, high frequency
  • Common Collector (CC) — voltage gain ≈ 1, impedance matching

Gate Boolean Expressions:

  • AND: Y = A·B  (1 only when ALL inputs = 1)
  • OR: Y = A+B  (1 when ANY input = 1)
  • NOT: Y = Ā  (output inverts input)
  • NAND: Y = ¬(A·B)  — Universal gate
